If you have ever enjoyed the beautiful aroma of a rose, or the refreshing smell of lemon zest, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils! Essential oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds that are found in different parts of plants including the seeds, bark, stems, roots, and flowers.

Essential oils provide plants their natural protection from environmental threats and can even help with pollination. But essential oils do more than just protect plants and create aromas for us to enjoy!  People have been using them in food, beauty regimens and in their everyday health and wellness routines for centuries.

Each essential oil possesses powerful properties and the ability to impact our human bodies in a wide variety of ways.  These aromatic compounds can uplift our mood or help us feel grounded, they can provide a boost of energy or deep relaxation, they can purify our body’s systems and the environments around us, and directly interact with all of our body systems in different ways.  Digestive support, healthy circulatory function, free-radical protection, and cellular integrity are some of the incredible ways that essential oils are able support our overall wellness.

Essential oils are used to support a wide range of emotional and physical wellness functions. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends in one of three applications:

When essential oils are inhaled aromatically, the molecules interact with the olfactory bulb of our brain to quickly travel to the most powerful part of our limbic system.  Aromatic application is easy and incredibly powerful.

Diffusing is one of the most popular ways to easily disperse the powerful aromatic molecules into the air to be inhaled. However, it can be as easy as applying a couple of drops onto your palms and simply inhaling.  Certain essential oils, when diffused, can be very stimulating, while others can be calming and soothing. Diffusing essential oils can also cleanse and purify the air of unwanted odors.

Essential oils have a rich history of being used for culinary application as well as being taken as a supplement to support targeted wellness.  Internal use is unique to doTERRA essential oils because they tested for purity, efficacy, and consistency from batch to batch.

With any internal application, start small!  When cooking, dip a toothpick into the essential oil and stir it in – sometimes even one drop can be too much and you can always add more! If taking internally as a supplement, use one to two drops in a veggie cap.

Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin because they are lipid soluble and are safe for topical application.  To avoid skin sensitivities and increase the rate of absorption, it’s always a good idea to dilute essential oils with a light, odorless carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil.

Essential oils can be applied to specific locations for localized support or to the bottoms of the feet/spine/reflexology points for overall systemic support. You can even apply essential oils to your pulse-points to create a personalized, natural “pure-fume” – have fun blending to create your signature scent!

Essential oils offer natural and effective options to support your family's wellness.  A single drop of essential oil can provide significant health benefits at a cellular level!  Because essential oils are so powerful, it's important choose oils that are potent, pure, and extensively tested.

Understanding how your essential oils are sourced, how they are tested, and being able to see 3rd party testing results for every batch are critical in ensuring the oils you're using are pure, potent, and unadulterated.  Learn more about purity and the extensive testing doTERRA performs along every step of the supply chain, for every bottle of oil on Source to You.  Transparency in testing is critical to ensuring every bottle you receive is pure, unadulterated, potent and effective.
